Myokine Expression and Tumor-Suppressive Effect of Serum after 12 weeks of Exercise in Prostate Cancer Patients on ADT
Myokines a signalling molecules released from muscle both at rest, during and following exercise. Certain myokines have been demonstrated in laboratory experiments to suppress the growth of various cancer cells. This study has demonstrated for the first time that men with prostate cancer on ADT develop higher concentrations of myokines in their blood when it rest. When serum was extracted from the blood and castrate resistant prostate cancer cells were exposed there was over a 20% suppression in growth rate.
