Resistance training in breast cancer patients undergoing primary treatment: a systematic review and meta-regression of exercise dosage

Latest systematic review & meta-regression from our team at Edith Cowan University suggesting low volume resistance training may be sufficient to induce beneficial strength gains in women with breast cancer while undergoing treatment. In untrained women a low dosage of resistance training may be more appropriate while they are going through treatment as they may not be able to adapt optimally to higher dosages. Much of the improvement is likely neural adaptation as we could not find any meaningful differences in muscle hypertrophy. Once treatment is completed and/or the patient has been strength training for more than 8-12 weeks higher dosages and intensities are likely required.
