If you build it, will they come? Evaluation of a co‐located exercise clinic and cancer treatment centre using the RE‐AIM framework

Around 10 years ago we started working with GenesisCare to develop exercise medicine services to support their cancer care. Our team established an exercise clinic within the new GenesisCare centre in Joondalup, Western Australia. GenesisCare built three bunkers in the basement of the new building to house the linear accelerators for radiation therapy but only commissioned two of them with the third for future expansion. Through a world first to my knowledge we established the exercise clinic in the third bunker, directly adjacent to the radiation therapy suite and only a short elevator ride to the chemotherapy suite.

This month our team published our evaluation of the uptake, barriers and facilitators to this exercise oncology service and we use this research to evolve and improve. Many thanks to our very talented PhD student Mary Kennedy for this great piece of work.
